Sandra Gătejeanu-Gheorghe has built an illustrious career in diplomacy, currently serving as the Consul General of Romania in Barcelona since November 2023. Her tenure at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is marked by her leadership of the Protocol Directorate from 2019 to 2023, during which she played a pivotal role in managing the protocol for Romania’s inaugural Presidency of the Council of the EU. She orchestrated the logistics and protocol for 19 informal ministerial meetings in Bucharest, as well as the significant informal Summit of Heads of State or Government in Sibiu in 2019.
Before her achievements in diplomacy, Gătejeanu-Gheorghe contributed over a decade of her expertise to the Royal House of Romania as the Director of Protocol, where she oversaw the protocol arrangements for all principal events of the Royal Family. Her academic credentials are equally impressive, having served as a doctoral teaching assistant at the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Law, specializing in Roman Law and the History of the Romanian State and Law. Gătejeanu-Gheorghe’s contributions have not gone unrecognized; she has been honored with the Order For Merit in the rank of Knight by the President of Romania, and the Order of the Crown of Romania in the rank of Officer, alongside the King Michael I Medal for Loyalty, by King Michael I of Romania, reflecting her unwavering dedication and service to her country and its heritage.
